Alright so I read a pretty interesting topic on Horror fans bashing new films and remakes because they only watch horror movies because of nostalgia. I was going to post on that blog but decided to rant here. While I think the post was a personal rant of their own , I also feel that lumping all horror fans into his assumption was way off base. I feel that because he likes some newer remakes and original films and some don't, they think it's because we won't give them a chance. I personally give every movie I watch a chance and if I don't like it there are many reasons why, horror or non-horror. Let me start with remakes, for the most part they are pointless and just bring in money for the studio because the public (non-genre fans) recognize the names of the films and associate them with being good. I believe for the most part these are the people the studios are targeting with remakes not the die hard fans of the originals. I usually don't see remakes in the theater, but if I do it's because I've heard good things about it ie The Evil Dead. When I first heard this was being made I thought waste of time, but after it was released I kept hearing great things about it and my wife wanted to see it so we did, I thought although gory was pretty mediocre ,flashy and did not deliver the goods. I actually liked The Thing prequel / remake more. Oh well, on to the horror movies in recent history that I like in no particular order- Martyrs Inside Serbian Film (uncut) Pontypool Hatchet House of The Devil V/H/S Hostel Wrong Turn Haute Tension Cabin Fever Cold Prey Session 9 The Descent Devils Rejects REC American Psycho Frailty Dog Soldiers Frontiers Rogue Feast 3 Extremes Abominable Remakes that were ok- The Hills Have Eyes My Bloody Valentine I'm sure there are more I haven't seen, but what it comes down to in the long run is people like different movies for different reasons horror or not and not based on nostalgia. Personally I don't know anyone that wants to watch a movie that they are going to hate and bash , that really just seems pointless.
